If your looking for some painting software with loads of options and ease of use then give MyPaint a try. It has a ton of brushes plus a section for you to save your favourites. There is a massive set of options for configuring and creating your own brushes plus support for pressure sensitivity should you own a wacom tablet. It has an unlimited canvas size and the tools do actually feel as if your using real paint.
